Unconditional love is known as one of the most painful and powerful experiences we as human beings can have. The pain and the power can be experienced simultaneously.

The challenges of loving without conditions can be extremely difficult. In a world where we have been raised to experience love with conditions, as ‘normality’.

When we have relationships which are formed through love, ultimately the foundation is built on unconditional love. Love which has no conditions.

For those who have come to know unconditional love through meeting with grief, the depths of a broken heart can teach us the power which unconditional love holds. To know the heart holds the capacity to love and experience emotions which are as deep as the ocean.

Through this pain we are inclined to close the heart.

The experience is too painful, and we need protection from experiencing this pain again.

When we close our hearts to protect ourselves from pain, we inadvertently shut out the chance to experience the power of unconditional love.

The blessing and the curse are simultaneous. The duality as always offers an insight into the light and the dark. The day and the night. The Yin and the Yang.

Whilst it is natural to shut down. Block out hearts. Protect ourselves from the pain that we cannot bear. The risk of our heart remaining open to love seems too big. We cannot live with this pain, so we discover the easier option, of closing to love.

If we do not love, we will not grieve.

There is nothing more powerful than the experience of unconditional love.

To love.

To be loved.

There is no power which can overcome it.

Not even the darkest or most insidious energy can defeat love.

However, we often find ourselves repeating the patterns of conditional love.

Love becomes a transaction. “If you do this, I will do that”.

Unconditional love is about giving freely.

Without expectation. No matter the pain. No matter the fear. No matter what comes back to us. We must keep loving. Keep standing in the power. Keep shining the light.

This is not about accepting or tolerating behaviours or conditions of others. It is about accepting and being accepted as we are. Being free to love. Love without expectations.

The closed heart. The fearful heart. The heart that fears loss. This is the heart that holds expectations. The love that comes with conditions. The heart so concerned with these fears. The heart which remains hardened cannot experience the true depths of unconditional love.

It is with a deep compassion that we understand the reasons for the hardened heart. The fear which has been experienced through loss. The protection from the grief. The heart that knows grief and love as equals. We cannot expect the heart to simply open without acknowledging its fears.

For many, this can be a most difficult challenge. To truly accept the pain. To welcome it home. To allow it to live the rest of your life. With you. In you.

The thought of this can be overwhelming. Often it can lead us to contemplate our own mortality. In this awareness we begin to know, that for each pain, there is a power.

For every moment of sorrow there is a moment of joy.

For every minute of chaos, there is a minute of peace.

It also serves as a reminder for the fragility of life. The tiny sparks in each day which are magical. The miracles which happen around us, with every day that we are gifted.

Life is gifted. It is not guaranteed.

We have constructed a belief within the safety of our blocked hearts. We have told ourselves that we know what is happening. We know we have a certain number of years to live. We know we will wake up tomorrow.

It is this false knowing, which contributes to the many worries and concerns we waste our time with. What we own. What we have. What we desire. What we need. What we earn. What we pay. What we wear. What others think and so on.

When we choose to acknowledge the fragility of life, we are given the opportunity to take the beauty which each day gifts us.

However, we have a choice.

We can continue to turn our heads. Look away. Focus on the material. The physical world. Cause ourselves concerns to distract from any kind of depth. We can shut off. Shut down. Close our hearts. Continue living with the false concern that prevents us from experiencing the only thing this life truly can offer.

Unconditional Love.
